Abbotsford House, former home of Scottish novelist, Sir Walter Scott

Abbotsford House, Melrose, Scottish Borders. This evening, I am focusing on Abbotsford House , a major visitor attraction on the south bank of the River Tweed near Melrose in the Scottish Borders . Location is about one hour south of Edinburgh. The Abbotsford site was first acquired by the Scottish romantic novelist, Sir Walter Scott ((1771-1832) in 1811 and thereafter the mansion grew to its current size under Sir Walter’s supervision. Sir Walter Scott achieved worldwide fame, principally through his series of twenty-six romantic, historic novels collectively known at the Waverley Novels which include such famous works as: Heart of Midlothian Ivanhoe Rob Roy Lady of the Lake Waverley Sir Walter’s writings acted as a catalyst for tourism in Scotland during the 19th century.
