Knowth, Ireland: A magificant prehistoric passage-tomb site dating back about 6000 years.

Knowth Passage Tomb, Ireland This afternoon, I am providing information on Knowth, in Ireland. This is one of the Neolithic (4000 BC to 2500 BC) prehistoric passage-tombs found in the Bru na Boinne region but with cultural links to a wider, Atlantic tomb building culture, using megaliths (great stones) stretching from Portugal to Scandinavia. The site is about fifty-four kilometers (thirty-three miles) north of Dublin. The great passage -tombs of Ireland (including Knowth, Dowth and Newgrange) share certain common features, viz: A passage of varying length leading to a chamber. A kerb made of large stones.(127 in case of Knowth.) A mound of small stones and/or soil. Invariably a ‘basin stone’ is found which was used to hold cremated remains or grave goods.
