Quarriers Village, Renfrewshire, Scotland Information on the village The village was the heart of the Quarriers organisation, a not-for-profit charity established in the 19th century, initially for orphaned and destitute children from Glasgow. Today, Quarriers has evolved into a major social care charity providing support and care for adults and children with a wide range of physical or learning disabilities and their families. Impressive building in Quarriers Village A summary history of Quarriers is provided below. Named after William Quarrier who was born in 1829 to a poor family in Greenock (near Glasgow) who subsequently relocated to Glasgow. William started work at age 6 yrs and later moved into shoemaking.
