Strathpeffer, a pleasant tourist resort in the Highlands of Scotland
Strathpeffer, Ross & Cromarty This evening, I am focusing on the town of Strathpeffer in the Highlands of Scotland, a village which is situated 20 miles N.W. of Inverness , near the Cromarty Firth. Video clip Facts and information on Strathpeffer:- Name is derived from P-Celtic (Welsh) and means ‘Vale of Radiant Stream’. Despite relatively high altitude Strathpeffer is sheltered by nearby hills and benefits from a warm, dry micro-climate. Nearby was fought two clan battles in the 15th century in which the Mackenzies emerged victorious: Battle of Blar Na Pairce, 1486 Battle of Drumchatt, 1497. Sulphurous springs were discovered in the 18th century the perceived health benefits of which were utilised in Victorian times to develop the town into a Spa resort, aided by a railway connection.
