Glencar Lake and Waterfall: An excellent Irish vista which is recorded in literature
Glencar Waterfall This evening, I am posting information and images on Glencar Lake and Waterfall near Sligo in the North-West of the island of Ireland. Glencar Waterfall Access is along a narrow lane off the main highway known as the N16. The area is popular with anglers (for trout and salmon), hikers and other recreational users such as picnickers. Glencar Lake The famous Irish poet W.B.Yeats immortalised the waterfall in his poem The Stolen Child: “Where the wandering water gushes From the hills above Glen-Car, In pools among the rushes That scarce could bathe a star, We seek for slumbering trout And whispering in their ears Give them unquiet dreams; Leaning softly out” Here the Drumcliff River cascades over a vertical drop to flow in to Glencar Lake. The lake itself is some two miles long and half a mile wide. Local landscape
