 Introduction This evening, I am reporting on the historic village (pop 1160) of Falkland in Fife eastern Scotland. Landscape view of Falkland Information on Falkland Location is 21 miles S.W.of St. Andrews and 40 miles N. of Edinburgh. Falkland was Scotland's first conservation village and is home to more than 100 listed buildings. The street layout is typical medieval. The Victorian gothic Bruce fountain sits at the centre of the main square which is dominated by the impressive parish church (Presbyterian). The Square, Falkland, Scotland This evening, I am posting information on the town of Falkland in Fife , east of Scotland. Location is about 40 miles north of Edinburgh and 21 miles S.W.of St Andrews. The most famous visitor attraction in Falkland is Falkland Palace ( see image below). This was built in the early 16th century and was used as a base for hunting by the Stewart (Scottish) kings.The Palace is characterised by some exceptional period architecture and is equipped with an original 16th century tennis court. Other facts and information concerning Falkland:- Population about 1200. Name may be derived from the Old English term for a falcon. The town has a history dating back to the 12th century, possibly earlier. Located at foot of the Lomond Hills. The fabric of town and Palace benefited from extensive restoration by the Marquess of Bute in the late 19th century. Well endowed with traditional Fife architecture including pantile roofs.
