Renfield St. Stephen’s Church, Glasgow

Introduction This evening, I am posting information on Renfield St. Stephen’s Church in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow .   View of Church with 220 ft high tower. Information on Renfield St. Stephen’s Church Key information: Built 1852 as a Congregational Church in 1852 at cost of GBP10,000. The spire is the tallest in the city centre at height of 220 feet (88m). Designed by English architect John T Emmet in the Tractarian Gothic Style. Built of polished Kenmure Stone which was quarried from five miles away to the north of the city. Interior fittings of oak. In 1874 the building was purchased by James Baird and donated to the Church of Scotland whereafter it was known as Blythswood Parish Church, In 1905 the large stained glass window behind the chancel was installed.   Waterfront Introduction This evening, I am posting information and images covering a small group hike around Helensburgh, Rhu and Firth of Clyde in the West of Scotland. Information on the Hike around Helensburgh Helensburgh is an upscale residential area to the West of Glasgow . The most popular visitor attraction is Hill House by famous architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. In this region are excellent scenic views, a  nearby naval base, shops and hotels, landscapes and pleasant walking routes. Helensburgh was the home of John Logie Baird who invented the earliest version of television. Crarae Garden, Scotland

 Introduction This afternoon, I am posting a portfolio of images taken during a visit to Crarae Garden in Argyll, West of Scotland.    Information on Crarae Garden This is a National Trust property extending to about 50 acres of woodland themed flora centred around the Crarae Burn (stream).  Location is close to Loch Fyne , about 11 miles south of Inveraray . Other facts: Crarae is modelled on a Himalayan, woodland theme. Here can be found many varieties of rhododendron,azalea, carmelia and magnolia. The garden features waterfalls, conifers and bridges. Scotland’s national collection of Nothofagus (a genus of trees and shrubs native to the southern hemisphere) is located at Crarae. I was very impressed by the diversity of colour shades produced by the wide range of plants, trees and shrubs. Ciara Phillips Art Exhibition

The following images were taken at the Ciara Phillips' exhibition earlier today at the Glasgow's Gallery of Modern Art. The exhibition is headlined 'Undoing It'. It focuses on the creative process itself. For the artist, making art offers an opportunity to think and think again, to both do and undo simultaneously. The artwork presents Phillips' characteristically vibrant woodcuts, etchings, and screen-prints. Ciara Phillips   (born 1976) is a Canadian-Irish artist based primarily in   Glasgow , United Kingdom. [ Phillips was born in   Ottawa , Canada. Her higher education was completed, first, at   Queen's University   in   Kingston , Ontario, Canada (Bachelor of Fine Art — 1996/2000). Subsequently, she studied at the   Glasgow School of Art , obtaining a   Master in Fine Art   (2002/2004). Glasgow Waterfront

 Introduction Yesterday, my post focused on warship construction facility on the River Clyde at Govan near Glasgow . Tonight, I am posting a selection of images taken whilst walking on the banks of the Clyde but not associated with the military site. Images and video taken in proximity to the Clyde and Govan This is Govan Old Church which dates from Victorian times. However the site which the church occupies boasts continuous Christian worship from around the 6th century AD onwards.    Here is the River Clyde.From left to right is: The new pedestrian footbridge linking Govan to Partick. The Tall Ship 'Glenlee'.  Riverside Museum (extensive grey building).  Another aspect of the Govan-Partick Bridge.  The Scottish Event Centre & Clyde Auditorium (aka 'Armadillo').
