Crieff, an attractive country town in central Scotland
This evening, I am posting information on the central Scotland town of Crieff which lies in Strathearn, about fifty miles N.E. of Glasgow..

Historically, Crieff was a cattle dealing centre and later became popular as a holiday destination in Victorian times. More information on the town:
- The name is derived from the Gaelic word for ‘tree’.
- Population is about 7000. A country town, still popular with visitors.
- Home to the Crieff Hydro and many other hotels and lodgings.
- Benefits from a high elevation which offers good views of the surrounding landscape.
- Close to Crieff is the Famous Grouse Visitor Centre based on Glenturret Whisky Distillery.
- It was at the Drummond of Perth’s Arms in Crieff where Bonnie Prince Charlie held his final War Council in February 1746 before moving on to his final defeat at Culloden in April that same year.
- Caithness Glass is located at Crieff. Here visitors can watch skilled craftspeople at work in their studio.
