  • Ruby Cask
  • Toasted Cask

At Christmas 2019 the Famous Grouse overtook Jack Daniel’s to become Britain’s leading whisky/whiskey by value, with sales topping £71 million over the festive period.

Although Famous Grouse is a blend there is a very popular Visitor Centre at Crieff in central Scotland which reportedly receives up to 200,000 visitors per annum. This is located at the Glenturret Distillery, a tiny operation but with a history dating back to 1775. Glenturret produces a single malt which is a key constituent of the Famous Grouse blend. Production capacity at Glenturret is 340,000 litres p.a.

Tours are available which demonstrate the entire whisky making process from malting and mashing through to fermentation, distillation and maturation. There are plenty of opportunities for tastings. There is also an extensive branded merchandise offering.

There are other famous brands (single malts) within the same group, Edrington, which include Glenrothes, Macallan and Highland Park.

In January 2020 Japanese spirits giant Suntory purchased a 10% stake in Edrington for an undisclosed amount.
