Castell Dinas Bran: A ruined Welsh castle offering superb views across local valley
The site is open to members of the public prepared to undertake the 321.4m / 1054 ft ascent.
This castle had a relatively short existence during the 13th century. However, prior to that the site was occupied as a defensive ‘fort’ during the Iron Age period, around 600 BC, with extant earthworks still visible from that time..
In good visibility, the high elevation site affords spectacular views over Llangollen, valley of the River Dee and the famous Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in the distance.
