Information on Port Askaig
Here is a tiny residential community together with hotel, shop and lifeboat station. However, Port Askaig is an important ferry connection linking northern Islay with nearby Jura to the north and Kennacraig on the Scottish mainland, about two hours to the east. The port experiences high volumes of traffic attributed to the whisky industry on Islay and Jura and tourism.
Near to Port Askaig can be found:
- Caol Ila Distillery
- Bunnahabhain Distillery
- Finlaggan, ancient power base of the Lords of the Isles.
Here is a video clip of Port Askaig taken from the ferry.
