Inversnaid Falls, Loch Lomond
Introduction
This evening, I am focusing on the waterfall at Inversnaid which is
situated at the North-Eastern end of Loch Lomond in Scotland. These
falls occur where the Snaid Burn (river) connects with Loch Lomond.

Information on the site:
- Situated on the route of the West Highland Way, a 100 mile hiking trail which runs from Glasgow to Fort William in the Highlands.
- Close by is the somewhat isolated Inversnaid Hotel.
- There is a literary connection in that English poet, William Wordsworth stood here to gain inspiration for his poem ‘To a Highland Girl’.
- About 1 mile away are the ruins of a ”Redcoat’, British military fort established in 1713 to control the area at a time when Rob Roy MacGregor was a cause of civil disturbance. It was here that General Wolfe (of Quebec fame) served as a young officer.
- Sir Walter Scott’s book ‘Rob Roy’ was based on the exploits of Rob Roy who used the wild crags and forest of Inversnaid as his personal domain.
Access to this remote spot is by boat or single track road.
