Lake Windermere

This afternoon, I am posting information on Lake Windermere in the English Lake District. The latter is an area of exceptional natural beauty most of which is incorporated within a National Park. The Lake District is located in N.W. England, south of Carlisle.

The Lake District encompasses sixteen principal lakes of which Windermere is the largest ( in fact ranks as England's largest lake) extending to 14.8 sq km in area and 10.5 miles in length.

Here is a video clip taken from Newby Bridge at southern end of the lake

The Lake District is a very popular tourist destination. Attractions close to Lake Windermere include:

  • World of Beatrix Potter
  • Lake Cruises
  • Steamboat Museum
  • Brockenhole Landscaped Gardens
  • Beatrix Potter Gallery.
  • Hill Top, farmhouse being former home of Beatrix Potter.
  • Lakes Aquarium
  • Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway.
  • Fellfoot, restored Victorian Park.

Towns close to the lake include Ambleside and Windermere.
