Eightercua Megalithic Tomb, Ireland

Eightercua Megalithic Tomb, Ireland

This evening, I am posting information on a significant prehistoric structure which is located close to the popular Ring of Kerry in S.W.Ireland.

Eightercua, shown above and below, comprises a row of four stones with a height of up to 10 feet on a line 30 feet in length. Alignment is East-West.

The stones appear to be connected with a burial site dating back to around 1700 BC, This date is contemporary with the Middle Bronze Age.

Location is about 1 mile S.S.E. of Waterville.

Images shown were taken from the roadside.

Ireland has a rich prehistoric heritage comprising numerous stone circles and 1500 megalithic tombs including the famous Newgrange near Dublin.

NB: A megalith is a large stone that has been used to construct a prehistoric structure or monument, either alone or together with other stones.
