The church is inextricably linked with the nearby Boconnoc Estae and Manor, near Lostwithiel, which has a history dating back to the 11th century Norman conquest of England. In the 18th and early 19th centuries the property was owned by the famous Pitt family (which produced two British Prime Ministers) and then the Fortescue family through to the present day.
King Charles I attended a service here in 1644 during the English Civil War.
