Netherton Cross, Hamilton Old Parish Church, Scotland

This evening, I am posting information on the Netherton Cross which now stands in the grounds of Hamilton Old Parish Church, Scotland.

Hamilton is a large town in South Lanarkshire, central Scotland, about 45 minutes S.E. of Glasgow.

Key facts concerning the Cross:

  • Dates from the 10th/11th centuries.
  • Oldest example of Christianity in Hamilton.
  • An example of British Strathclyde sculpture influenced by Manx-Norse design.
  • Originally stood in open ground in what is now Strathclyde Country Park.
  • Moved to current location in 1925 with preservation in mind.
