Dancers (Moulin Rouge) references a dance performance in the 1952 film biopic on the life of Toulouse Lautrec with frames selected from a sequence lasting less than 10 seconds.
Fiona Michie's work is influenced by country estates and landscapes of Aberdeenshire and Edinburgh, Scotland.
Inverleith depicts a solitary woman submerged in a lake facing away from the viewer, poised to move towards a distant house.-a classic horror trope suggesting dread and foreboding. The work draws on a scene from the 1961 horror film, The Innocents.
This painting 'Seeds' is also by Fiona Michie. It is inspired by Bronte's protagonist, Catherine in Wuthering heights.
This post connects nicely with Scottish art, architecture and culture.
